Mwanhala water

For many years we have been seeking ways of providing Mwanhala with a safe and reliable water supply and are pleased to announce that our efforts have met with success. A borehole has been sunk in the grounds of the FDC and is able to supply 1000 litres of clean water each hour.

Villagers pay a small charge, 2p for 25 litres, which will cover running costs.

Final stage

When mains electricity reaches Mwanhala FDC in 2015 (hopefully) a submersible electric pump will be used to fill the nearby water tower storage tank.

This has already been tested but using the FDC generator to run the pump is too expensive long term.

Water will then be distributed to some sites in the village, saving the 1-2km walk to the pump.

The hand pump will be moved to Isegenhe village for use with their refurbished well.
