The picture (below left) shows Amy Baigent (on the right) and Jennie Overend, two medical students from Sheffield University in the grounds of Nzega Hospital. The two decided to visit Nzega District Hospital for their medical placement; Amy had visited Nzega with Cranbrook School in 2005 just before starting her course at Sheffield and her enthusiasm for Tanzania persuaded Jennie to join her.
The two are staying with Mama Malyeli, Principal of Mwanhala FDC . Amy has emailed to say, “We've piled on weight already - she seems to force-feed us every few hours, plenty of food!”
The picture below shows Amy in 2005 at Maboha Mother and Child Health Clinic
We are very grateful to Tools For Self Reliance who have once again lent us one of their volunteer workers to go to Tabora and teach short courses in sewing machine maintenance. Alice Roucoux, shown here at her work desk in the Tools For Self Reliance workshop at Netley Marsh, Southampton, will spend a month in the Tabora Region running courses in the FDCs at Mwanhala, Sikonge and Urambo. She will also spend three days in the village of Ibambo where the new FUM sponsored MCH clinic is nearing completion. A short report of her achievements is included in the Autumn 2011 Newsletter.

The Friends of Urambo and Mwanhala is a small NGO working in the Tabora Region of Tanzania, specifically in the Districts of Nzega, Sikonge and Urambo. We are an association of friends who each give money to support our projects in Tanzania. From time to time we receive support from other organisations to help with specific projects.
Our main areas of interest are: education, health, water and agriculture. We are concerned with advancing the development of the people of the Tabora Region but also with educating young people in the UK. To that end we not only provide funds for projects in Tanzania but facilitate educational visits by UK schools and individuals to the Tabora Region.
FUM has operated in the Tabora Region for nearly fifty years and has developed a good working relationship with the Tanzanian Government. The Regional Commissioner, Tabora is one of our two presidents and the district authorities have appointed FUM coordinators in each of the districts.
FUM is a very cost effective organisation. All its officers are volunteers and as a result we have very low administration costs with more than 95% of donations spent on projects.
